Frequently Ask Questions:
1. What is the maximum size unit I can order?
25 square feet is the largest unit we will produce. The reason for this is related to the safety and handling of this product at our factory and your factory when glazing.
2. Who do you sell to?
We sell to window and door manufacturers. We have established relationships with many manufacturing companies and are continually expanding this list. They know best how to communicate your requirements to us and how to glaze our products.
3. Can you make shapes, if so which ones?
Yes shapes are an option; in fact, shapes are a big part of our business. We can make ovals, ellipses, octagons, trapezoids, round tops, half-rounds and more.
4. Do you offer Low E?
No. The float plants have a variety of Low E coatings that come in different tints and colors, and the shelf life for the non-insulated Low E products is short. Application of the Low E on the 2nd surface for the southern market and 3rd surface for the northern market adds another factor to being able to manage this offering through our production facility. An unknown point is that we don’t know what or how the heat build up with a dark or textured stained glass with metal caming is going to react. Keep in mind our product is a triple IG unit and reflects good U and R values without Low E or Gas.
5. Can units be either tempered or annealed?
Yes. Although the majority of units are annealed, they can be tempered if required. All doorlite units will be tempered in order to comply with safety codes. We also require that any unit over 15 sqft be tempered to ensure the safe handling during glazing and installation processes. Please state TEMPERED or ANNEALED on your quotes and orders.
6. What is OA"?
OA” stands for OVERALL THICKNESS. Glass size is measured width x height x thickness. Overall thickness is often determined by the glazing specifications of frames, sashes, or doors in which our product is installed. We offer 3/4, 7/8, or 1” OA”.
7. What do I need to specify when asking for a quote or ordering a unit?
The glass size; including width, height and overall thickness, whether the unit is tempered or annealed, the name of the design or a drawing if unknown, caming selection, glass selections, and the shape of the unit.
8. What colors of stained glass do you offer?
We offer way too many to list...see our GLASS OPTIONS PAGE of this website or visit www.spectrumglass.com for a complete list.
9. What are my caming/metal options?
Caming is the metal used to hold the decorative stained glass pieces together in order to create a solid design. Choices include: Zinc, Brass, Patina, and Nickel...Browse our METAL OPTIONS PAGE of this website to see a sample product. We match your caming selection with Gold, Silver & Black aluminum spacers.
10. What is the difference between U-channel and Y-channel?
U-Channel is used to fit with Super Spacer®. Super Spacer® is the spacer and is used to aesthetically work with imported doorlites from China and Mexico. Y-Channel is used with aluminum spacers. Aluminum spacers can be Black, Gold, or Silver in color and add rigidity for larger glass sizes. The sealant, polyurethane, is then applied to the outside of the Super Spacer® or aluminum spacer.
11. What is the LEAD TIME?
Lead-time is consistently 7 to 10 business days for all insulated leaded or laminated designs. Lead-time for grooved designs is only 5 to 7 business days. Now that we are settled in at our new location, we will have new machinery and some up-grades that will allow us to decrease our lead-time by and an additional 2 to 3 more days by year-end.
12. Do you offer any warranties?
Our products have a 10 year limited warranty against seal failure provided proper glazing and installation methods are followed. The edge of the sealant should never rest against a stile or rail nor should it set in or be exposed to water. Neoprene setting blocks should be used. The warranty covers repair of our product, not replacement. Kenyon’s Stained Glass Factory, Inc. will not be liable for any additional or related costs. We operate under the Insulated Glass Certification Councils (IGCC) guidelines. Our certification number is #1869 and we have met Class CBA, the highest rating possible.
